Resin bound vs resin bonded — the key difference
Resin bound mixes the aggregate and resin together before laying — the result is a fully permeable, smooth surface. Resin bonded scatters loose aggregate onto a resin-coated surface — the result is a textured, non-permeable finish that sheds stones over time.
Resin bound is the premium product. It costs more but lasts longer, looks better and is SUDS-compliant. Resin bonded is cheaper (€40–€65 per m²) but is not suitable as a standalone driveway surface.
What to check in a resin driveway quote
A resin bound quote should specify: the resin system manufacturer and product name, the aggregate source and blend, the laid depth (typically 15–18mm for driveways), the base specification, and whether the system is UV-stable.
Ask specifically whether the quote is for resin bound or resin bonded. Some contractors quote resin bonded at a lower price without making the distinction clear.
